The Basics

I was born and raised in the Appalachians and have lived in one mountain range or another all my life; I prefer a laid-back life, androgyny, and a decided lack of stereotypes. Currently situated in Carson City, Nevada, I work on the web team of a fantastic organic supplements company as a jack-of-all-trades. I live with my partner, J, plus four cats, one dog, and a huge goldfish. My hobbies are as diverse as my creative outlets: I study martial arts, ride a dual-sport motorcycle, live and breathe music, contemplate philosophy and spirituality, and venture into the wilderness as often as possible.

The Writer

I write because I must. I claim my genre as sci-fantasy, enjoying a mixture of futuristic or steampunk technology and plausible magic or mythology; on occasion, I stray the course to dabble in hard science fiction or high fantasy, but such forays are rare. I've participated in National Novel-Writing Month since 2003 and reached the 50,000 word goal every year save one. Since 2000, I've amassed over 700 pieces of fiction: short stories, excerpts, series, poems, and ten finished novels. I self-published The Demon-God of Jubagh in 2007, promptly removed it from the public eye, and am currently working on completing one or two more projects before seeking an agent in a bid for traditional publishing. My goal is not to make money or achieve fame, but to have my words and worlds accessible to anyone; I'll self-publish again if I don't find a place with a publishing house.

The Geofictionist

Geofiction is a niche term for a form of worldbuilding that is done for worldbuilding's sake, rather than as a mere background to a particular story or character. If the story is the chicken, geofiction is the egg; of course, a clutch of eggs given enough attention and time will hatch stories. I'm a passionate geofictionist, creating and designing in a discovery-like process; I explore alien and fantasy worlds, investigate strange and mystical flora, study bizarre creatures and monsters, and take notes on the quirky details of intelligent cultures, even going so far as to learn the language in some cases. I have been creating for longer than I've been writing and have amassed over three hundred intelligent species, over a hundred different worlds, and some dozen languages. Although beloved in their own ways, writing and art are merely venues to express the geofiction I create.

The Web Designer

I'm a self-taught web and graphic designer, copywriter and copyeditor, search engine optimizer, and general marketing consultant. As in all things, my jack-of-all-trades nature has proven both useful and not: I have a good eye for the big picture and solid ideas on how to make the pieces fit, but I'm not an expert in any one area, leaving specialization for the insects. Notably, I'm not a programmer or developer. In the past, I've worked with small and start-up companies as a full-time employee, as well as helping independent professionals like real estate agents, artists, health insurance agents, and mortgage specialists create a personal brand and web presence. My freelance work is selective so that each client receives my best efforts and plenty of time; if you're interested in working with me in any web-based capacity, contact me today to get started.

The Artist

I'm an enthusiastic doodler novice artist. My work in web and graphic design has given me a fair eye for what looks good and what doesn't, which is easily applied to photography and less easily so to digital and traditional art. My photography is a hobby-level passion, usually centering around wildlife and nature shots using a simple digital camera. My art is largely comprised of concept art, both finished pieces and rough sketches; I'm also making new forays into digital speedpainting and vector art as I find the time.
